Description: Ranging from pale gray to delicate lavender, our lepidolite has showy displays of imbedded pink tourmaline. I cut each stone to best show its beauty and distinctive characteristics and pair it with either tourmaline or pink sapphire as an accent. The shape shown in the photo is oval, but I often cut teardrop shapes as well. It just depends on what part of the material I want to emphasize. While the higher quality material is reserved for jewelry, this amazing stone is also an important source of lithium, the lightest metal in the world. We use lithium daily in rechargeable batteries, toasters, microwave ovens and even your mobile phone! Who knew such a gorgeous stone would have so many other uses?
Like turquoise, lepidolite is on the soft side, so heavy pressure can cause it to break. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals such as bleach, peroxide or other household cleaners.
